The Original Dukke of Death

Description

Get ready for a trip down memory lane.

This positively archeological Berol Prismacolor™ marker illustration depicts my first ever original characters in all their glory.

Holding the Desert Eagle, sporting the double-breasted Armani suit, and posing in front of the red Lamboghini Countach, is none other than Daniel Dukke ( Pronounced "duck" . As you can no doubt guess, this character is the inspiration for my bizarre screen name. )

Daniel Dukke is an independently wealthy, sophisticated jet-setter who travels the world finding evil where he can, and extinguishing its practitioners in the simultaneously coolest and grisliest ways possible.

I never decided whether or not he was a plain-clothes policeman, an undercover detective, a private investigator, a secret agent, or simply an overdressed vigilante, although at one point or another during his existence, he's exhibited signs of being all of the above.

In all honesty, I really didn't care about such particulars so long as the criminal body count was sufficiently high. ;p

As I look at this picture now, the profound impact of the television program Miami Vice™ upon my impressionable young psyche, becomes readily apparent. As I recall, I even owned one of those ridiculous Don Johnson "Pastel Ice Cream Man" suits back when the show aired. (I hope to God no one ever photographed me in that get up. :fear:)

Looming large behind Mr. Dukke, is his equally bad ass1 side-kick, Ferdinand Fox, an aspiring crime-fighter who learned martial arts by watching the films of L. Bruce Preslei2 set on fast forward!

Acquiring preternatural fighting skills in this manner, the newly minted Teenage Killing Machine sought out the world's foremost slayer of evil-doers, Mr. Dukke, to learn from him how to become a great adventurer.

When he thinks of it, Daniel will occasionally say something wise and "mentory" to Ferdinand, but for the most part, he just points gifted fighter at the inevitable, incoming cloud of blood-thirsty Ninja Cats and lets him go wild.

Foxes, as it turns out, make excellent human shields.;)

During my college days, I inflicted the adventures of these characters upon the hapless University of Maryland campus. I probably have a few copies of the collection I made still gathering dust in my attic. :XD:

Every now and again, I consider having DD & FF take place in the same "nobody looks twice at a five-foot-two-inch mosuegirl" universe as Most Dangerous Bookstore, and having Daniel be a former associate/ex-boyfriend of Cassandra Cat. In this manner I could explain the bookstore cat's uncanny acumen with dispatching ninja-pirate-zombies. ;p

1.) I made up these characters when I was eight, so it's quite a rush to be able to use the phrase "bad ass" without fear of reprisal. :phew:

2.)FYI, L. Bruce Preslei was a recurring character in the strip. He was a rock star who acted in a host of mediocre kung-fu/musicals before disappearing mysteriously in 1975. He is also © John Staton, as are Daniel Dukke, and Ferdinand Fox.:D

Hello, sir, I don't know if you'll see this comment, but I was wondering if you had any sans of this comic from the university newspaper you could post or share? I have a bit of an interest in comics including student newspaper comics & would like to see what yours was like, & maybe post on reddit to share with others.

Thank you for your time.
