Princeless Progress by JohnStaton
Princeless Progress
Now all the girls. (Yes, that's a girl dragon.) are colored in. Still need to wok on tones and highlights, while my obsolescent computer protests with every step.

Going to have to buy a new one soon.
PrinclessThree-Color01 by JohnStaton
Now starting the colors for the Big Planet Comics exclusive variant cover for Princeless: The Pirate Princess #1, shipping on January 25, 2015.

Of course Adrienne Ashe gets colored in first. She is the star after all. Supporting cast has to wait their turn. ;p
Dragonatomy by JohnStaton

Pencils for Sparky the Dragon, faithful aerial steed of Princess Adrienne Ashe.

There was quite a lot to puzzle out about drawing Sparky. From her powerful upper body, to her incongruous kangaroo legs, to her horse-like snout, and her freaky bat-wings, ol' Sparks was a quite a mythological conundrum. So much so, I opted to work out her bizarre "dragonatomy", on a separate piece of paper, later to be reunited with the Princesses Three through the miracle of Photoshop.

I am forced to admit, drawing helicopters is a breeze by comparison.

On a profoundly trivial note, nitpicking keen eyes will notice that I drew English saddles hitched around Sparky's midriff, as opposed to the Western-style saddles, she is usually drawn wearing.

I know it's a fantasy kingdom and all, but I just don't see medieval-esque fairy tale knights making use of American saddles. :shrug:

Pirate Princeless by JohnStaton
Pirate Princeless
I'm taking a brief interlude from the wintery mother daughter shenanigans of Evil Diva to create a variant cover for the first issue of the third volume of the highly popular fantasy series, Princeless: The Pirate Princess. The #1 one issue will ship January 28th, and this variant will be a exclusive for  Big Planet Comics.

Featured here are the heroine, Adrienne Ashe, the sword wielding woman warrior, who chooses to be a knight rather than waiting for one to rescue her, Bedelia Smith, a freakishly tall (For a dwarf.) dwarven blacksmith whom, after forging Adrienne's unprecedented suit of non midriff showing armor, was inspired to join the young knight's quest, and Raven Xingtao the latest addition to their band.

Above is a rudimentary sketch of what will become Adrienne's faithful steed, Sparky the dragon--promise. ^^;

After experiences a seeming eternal dearth of watchable anime, I happened upon three GREAT shows.

Upotte Anime girls with assault rifles.

Girls und Panzer: Anime girls with tanks.

Strike Witches: Anime girls with WWII fighter planes for legs.

Yes, that's right, they all feature cute girls and assiduously detailed military equipment. :excited: I hope no one is surprised I like this sort of stuff. If you like this sort of stuff, you should check them out. :thumbsup:;)

Now all we need is a new anime with 4th and 5th generation fighter jets. :iconplanningplz:

I'm glad that you had a good time.

It was a real eye opener for me. I hadn't been at a 'con since 2007. ^^; I was taken aback to see how complex and involved everyone's table set ups were. I really plan to raise my game when I go to Otakon 2015. :iconplanningplz:

How about you? What were your impressions of the conventions this year?
HotaruShidosha Featured By Owner Nov 2, 2014  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I had gone to AnimeNEXT in June and wasn't all that impressed. I had been there previously and it felt so rushed and poor. AnimeUSA, however, was really well organized in that lovely hotel. Everyone was so pleasant and artist alley was well done :D

Was a lot of fun talking to you, good luck with taking over that comic you spoke to us about ^ ^

I'll have to tell my friend, Mark who is the con chair. I'm sure he'll be honored to hear that an attendee was impressed by how organized the convention was.

In the meantime, please check out me gallery. I am doing art now for the aforementioned comic, and you can see pencils for upcoming pages as I produce them. ;)

Some really great stuff in here. You've certainly piqued my interests, especially what you did with Evil Diva. Gonna keep on eye on you and give you a Watch. ;)

Hello. It's come to my understanding that you once did some artwork for Krakow Studios, depicting the young marilith Guinness as she might look as a sexy adult.:…

I know that's a very random thing to bring up out of the blue so many years down the road, but I just thought it might interest you to know that Krakow has recently given an older Guinness a cameo appearance in his newest comic, "Spinnerette". She's now a secretary to a high-ranking cerberus demon, and I figured you might be interested to see how she canonically turned out.……

You're thinking of Eric Stanton, who passed away, back in 1999. ^^;
